Vyper Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities & Slither
Learn Vyper abilities, the current hybrid build, skill priority, Screwjab stacks, Lethal Venom executes, Slither movement, and counterplay.
Entering from an unexpected slide route, stacking pressure on one target, and converting missing health into a delayed Lethal Venom finish
Updated July 21, 2026: Vyper is a low-complexity assassin who stacks slowing Screwjab Daggers, marks a target with missing-health Lethal Venom, gains exceptional slide control through Slither, and uses Petrifying Bola for area slow or direct-hit petrify.
Vyper turns map slopes and close corners into entry routes. Screwjab Dagger stacks become more dangerous on one target, Lethal Venom rewards waiting until health is missing, Slither preserves momentum, and Petrifying Bola controls the final response. The hero is easy to understand but unforgiving when the slide route has no exit.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed Vyper at a 14.50% pick rate and 50.31% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.
Vyper At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Game-data type | Assassin |
| Practical role | Sliding close-range assassin, stacking dagger debuffer, missing-health finisher, and temporary petrify controller |
| Complexity | 1 of 3 |
| Starting health | 780 |
| Move speed and stamina | 6.9 m/s and 4 stamina |
| Best at | Entering from an unexpected slide route, stacking pressure on one target, and converting missing health into a delayed Lethal Venom finish |
| Main risk | Sliding through the enemy formation without a covered exit or petrifying a target when the temporary damage block saves them from allied burst |
Vyper Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Screwjab Dagger | Throws a dagger for Spirit damage and slow; repeated daggers on the same target stack both damage and slow. | Keep the stack on the priority target, reduce the escape speed, and avoid spreading charges across enemies that will not be finished. |
| 2 | Lethal Venom | Injects a target with delayed Spirit damage that increases with missing health and ignores Petrify's damage block. | Apply after the target loses health, then maintain pressure through the delay so the missing-health scaling matters. |
| 3 | Slither | Passively increases slide distance, allows uphill sliding, and improves turn control while sliding. | Use slopes and corners to enter or leave with momentum, but choose the whole route before showing in close range. |
| 4 | Petrifying Bola | Throws an explosive bola that slows and damages an area; a direct hit adds damage and Petrifies the target, preventing actions but blocking most damage. | Use the area explosion to slow groups, direct-hit a dangerous cast, or buy Venom time while remembering that allied damage is temporarily blocked. |
Vyper is a timing assassin. Slither provides access, Daggers build the target-specific slow, Venom becomes stronger as health drops, and Bola decides whether to interrupt, delay, or secure the route. Petrify is not a normal stun because it can also deny allied damage; the cast must match the next team action.
Best Vyper Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Slither
- Lethal Venom
- Petrifying Bola
- Screwjab Dagger
This is the most-played completed max-order route in the current standard-match sample. It prioritizes Vyper's defining movement passive, then the missing-health finisher and control. Screwjab Dagger remains the repeatable setup even when its final upgrades arrive last.
Vyper Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Quicksilver Reload, Extra Spirit, Close Quarters, Improved Spirit | Supports a fast ability-linked reload, close-range weapon pressure, and early Spirit scaling for the dagger-and-venom sequence. |
| Core | Rapid Rounds, Reactive Barrier, Tesla Bullets, Spirit Lifesteal | Raises firing tempo and chain pressure while providing control-triggered defense and recovery during the committed slide. |
| Late | Burst Fire, Mercurial Magnum, Bullet Lifesteal, Blood Tribute | Turns close sustained contact into a powerful weapon finish with additional lifesteal and high-risk damage conversion. |
The current pro sample uses early Spirit and close-range tools to bridge into a weapon-heavy finish. Quicksilver Reload, daggers, and Venom start the sequence; Rapid Rounds, Tesla Bullets, Burst Fire, Mercurial Magnum, and lifesteal reward remaining on the target after Slither creates access.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live Vyper pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Buy Debuff Reducer when control stops every slide before the weapon finish begins.
- Use Healbane when the target recovers through Lethal Venom's delay.
- Choose Counterspell when a single targeted ability makes every close-range route unsafe.
How To Play Vyper
Lane
Use the lane slope for movement without showing the full engage. Stack Screwjab Daggers on one opponent, trade with Close Quarters, and cast Lethal Venom after real health is missing. Save Bola for the escape or enemy counter-cast.
Mid Game
Start the slide from cover and know the exit slope before entering. Dagger the priority target, fire through Quicksilver Reload, apply Venom at reduced health, and use Bola either to interrupt the answer or slow the surrounding team.
Teamfights
Vyper does not need to cross the entire formation. Attack the nearest high-value isolated target, preserve slide momentum, and let Tesla Bullets spread pressure. Direct-hit Petrify only when the temporary damage immunity does not cancel the team's winning burst.
Late Game
Burst Fire and Mercurial Magnum can finish quickly, but a bad route still ends quickly in the other direction. Track enemy control, choose a slope that returns to cover, and use lifesteal only as support for positioning rather than permission to stand still.
Vyper Combos And Fight Patterns
- Sliding finish: Slither from cover, stack Screwjab Dagger, fire through Quicksilver Reload, apply Lethal Venom after health drops, then continue the weapon burst.
- Interrupt route: slide into range, direct-hit Petrifying Bola on the dangerous cast, reposition during Petrify, then resume damage as the block ends and Venom triggers.
- Group pressure: explode Bola between several enemies for slow, focus Daggers on one target, and let Tesla Bullets spread while preserving the next slide exit.
Vyper Strengths And Weaknesses

How To Counter Vyper
- Fight away from slopes and long slide routes when possible.
- Break line of sight during Lethal Venom's delay and recover.
- Spread so Vyper cannot gain safe close contact with the backline.
- Save control for the end of a committed slide.
- Use Petrify's damage block to reposition instead of waiting in place.
Common Vyper Mistakes
- Entering before identifying the exit slope.
- Spreading Screwjab Daggers across too many targets.
- Casting Lethal Venom before meaningful health is missing.
- Petrifying a target during the team's largest burst.
- Expecting lifesteal to replace cover against focused control.
Vyper Lore
Vyper is a prolific criminal who has served time in every major prison in the tri-state area and escaped often enough to build both a network of favors and a long list of enemies.

Vyper FAQ
What is the best Vyper build?
The current pro sample opens with Quicksilver Reload, Spirit, and Close Quarters, then moves into Rapid Rounds, Tesla Bullets, Burst Fire, Mercurial Magnum, and lifesteal.
Does Vyper Lethal Venom damage a Petrified target?
Yes. The current ability description says Lethal Venom ignores the damage block created by Petrify.
What should Vyper max first?
The largest current completed route maxes Slither, then Lethal Venom, Petrifying Bola, and Screwjab Dagger.
What counters Vyper?
Avoiding strong slide routes, breaking contact during Venom, saving control for the committed slide, and using Petrify time to reposition reduce her finish.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 54-game Vyper pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
