Infernus Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities & Afterburn
Learn Infernus abilities, the current Spirit build, skill priority, Afterburn pressure, Flame Dash routes, ultimate timing, and counterplay.
Stacking persistent burn pressure, chasing through a fight, and amplifying damage against napalm-coated targets
Updated July 21, 2026: Infernus is a low-complexity marksman who coats targets in Napalm, builds Afterburn with weapon hits, races through fights with Flame Dash, and detonates a delayed area stun.
Infernus wins through continuity. Napalm increases the value of follow-up damage, gunfire builds and extends Afterburn, Flame Dash preserves contact or changes the angle, and Concussive Combustion punishes enemies who remain nearby through the delay.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed Infernus at a 43.75% pick rate and 47.11% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.
Infernus At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Game-data type | Marksman |
| Practical role | Damage-over-time marksman, mobile Spirit skirmisher, anti-heal applier, and delayed area stunner |
| Complexity | 1 of 3 |
| Starting health | 830 |
| Move speed and stamina | 6.7 m/s and 3 stamina |
| Best at | Stacking persistent burn pressure, chasing through a fight, and amplifying damage against napalm-coated targets |
| Main risk | Failing to maintain weapon contact for Afterburn or dashing into the enemy before Concussive Combustion can finish |
Infernus Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Napalm | Spews an incendiary mixture that deals Spirit damage, slows, coats targets in napalm, and later upgrades amplify Infernus damage and reduce healing. | Open the damage cycle, slow a route, and mark the targets that should receive sustained burn pressure. |
| 2 | Flame Dash | Dashes forward with slow resistance and leaves a flaming trail that deals Spirit damage over time; holding forward extends the dash. | Cross a fight, chase through a corridor, escape a bad angle, or draw a damaging route enemies do not want to follow. |
| 3 | Afterburn | Weapon hits build a burning effect that deals Spirit damage over time; abilities refresh the base burn duration and more weapon hits extend it. | Keep accurate contact on one target, then refresh the burn with an ability when the opponent tries to disengage. |
| 4 | Concussive Combustion | Turns Infernus into a delayed living bomb that damages and stuns nearby enemies; once cast, the detonation cannot be interrupted. | Activate before entering a committed group, then use movement and cover so enemies cannot simply leave the blast radius. |
The abilities reinforce one another but do not replace gun accuracy. Afterburn needs weapon hits, Napalm rewards continued damage from Infernus, Flame Dash maintains proximity, and the ultimate needs enough timing and path control to survive its visible delay.
Best Infernus Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Afterburn
- Napalm
- Concussive Combustion
- Flame Dash
The largest completed route maxes the passive burn first, then the amplifier and anti-heal tool. Flame Dash remains essential mobility at base value even though the current route gives its final upgrades later.
Infernus Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Extra Spirit, Spirit Lifesteal, Healbane, Headshot Booster | Adds burn pressure, recovery, anti-heal, and a reason to keep landing accurate weapon hits. |
| Core | Improved Spirit, Mystic Vulnerability, Rapid Recharge, Warp Stone | Scales repeated Spirit effects, increases ability availability, and adds another way to control the engagement angle. |
| Late | Spiritual Overflow, Escalating Exposure, Superior Duration, Toxic Bullets | Rewards sustained gunfire and repeated damage-over-time applications with escalating late-fight pressure. |
The current pro sample is a Spirit burn route supported by weapon contact. Extra charges and recharge improve ability uptime, but the build still depends on bullets to establish Afterburn and Spiritual Overflow during the real target window.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live Infernus pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Use Dispel Magic when a defensive effect repeatedly removes the pressure window.
- Buy Counterspell or direct defense when entering for Concussive Combustion is otherwise impossible.
- Choose Spirit Shredder Bullets or Scourge when the enemy's Spirit defenses outpace another generic damage purchase.
How To Play Infernus
Lane
Land short accurate bursts to build Afterburn, then use Napalm to slow and refresh pressure. Preserve Flame Dash when the opposing lane can punish a forward route or when the dash is the only reliable escape.
Mid Game
Rotate through paths where Flame Dash can leave a useful trail. Apply Napalm to the target your team can continue hitting, build Afterburn with gunfire, and use the next ability to prevent the burn from falling away during retreat.
Teamfights
Start Concussive Combustion before crossing the final distance, not after every enemy has already scattered. Dash through a route that keeps several targets near the detonation, then return to accurate gunfire while burns continue.
Late Game
Damage over time can force defensive resources without an immediate kill. Keep one priority target burning, avoid chasing through unsupported space, and value a protected second cycle over a spectacular dash that ends before the detonation.
Infernus Combos And Fight Patterns
- Lane burn: land weapon hits to start Afterburn, apply Napalm for slow and amplification, then continue firing or refresh with Flame Dash as the target retreats.
- Teamfight entry: cast Concussive Combustion before the engage, use Flame Dash to cross the group, detonate, then apply Napalm and sustained gunfire to the stunned target.
- Chase route: coat the target in Napalm, dash along the escape path, and keep enough distance to fire accurately while the trail and Afterburn continue ticking.
Infernus Strengths And Weaknesses

How To Counter Infernus
- Break weapon contact before Afterburn fully builds or extends.
- Cleanse, heal, or disengage before several damage-over-time effects overlap.
- Spread and leave the area when Concussive Combustion begins.
- Avoid chasing directly through Flame Dash's burning trail.
- Punish the endpoint when Infernus spends Dash aggressively without cover.
Common Infernus Mistakes
- Expecting abilities to compensate for missed gunfire.
- Using Flame Dash forward before checking the endpoint.
- Casting Concussive Combustion after enemies have already disengaged.
- Applying Napalm to a target the team cannot continue damaging.
- Buying only Spirit damage while every entry dies to the same defense.
Infernus Lore
Infernus is a supernatural being from another plane who spent his youth committing arson and worse. Now older and calmer, he works at a bar with live music, though violent patrons can still discover the fire skills he once honed.

Infernus FAQ
How does Infernus Afterburn work?
Weapon hits build the burn. Abilities refresh its base duration, while additional weapon hits extend how long it remains active.
What is the best Infernus build?
The current pro sample uses early Spirit and lifesteal, mid-game vulnerability and recharge, then Spiritual Overflow, exposure, duration, and another damage-over-time effect.
Can Concussive Combustion be interrupted?
Current game data says that once Infernus casts it, the delayed detonation cannot be interrupted. Enemies can still move away or defend against the result.
What counters Infernus?
Breaking weapon contact, cleansing or surviving damage over time, spreading from the ultimate, and punishing aggressive Flame Dash endpoints all reduce his pressure.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 191-game Infernus pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
