Deadlock Urn Guide (2026): Spawn Times, Rewards & Routes
Run Deadlock's current cross-map Soul Urn objective without following rules Valve already replaced.
Push first, pick the runner, control the far end, and stay for the orbs.
Updated July 21, 2026: The Deadlock Soul Urn is a timed cross-map objective that first spawns at 10:00 and returns at 15:00, 20:00, 25:00, and every five minutes after that. Pick it up at one end of the map, carry it to the marked point at the opposite end, and secure the soul orbs released on delivery.
The current Urn is not the same objective described by many older videos and guides. Since Valve’s June 30 update, delivering it no longer starts King of the Hill or the Unstable Rift. The Urn now has its own runner reward, bounty-decay clock, drop rules, comeback scaling, and four permanent buffs for the carrier.

When Does The Deadlock Urn Spawn?
The first Soul Urn spawns at 10 minutes. New Urns are scheduled for five-minute intervals after that: 15:00, 20:00, 25:00, 30:00, and onward. Valve says it can appear at either end of the map, using the former neutral pickup locations, and the delivery point is at the opposite end.
The map marks the active objective and destination. Do not start by memorizing an old left-to-right route from a video, because the pickup end can change. Read the current marker, identify which lanes your team controls, and choose the safer path across the city.
If nobody takes the Urn, it does not simply wait forever. Three minutes after spawning, it starts walking very slowly toward its own deposit location. That movement creates another reason to keep checking the objective even when both teams initially ignore it.
How To Pick Up And Deliver The Soul Urn
- Read the pickup and deposit markers. Confirm which end the Urn spawned on and where it must go before leaving your lane.
- Push nearby lanes first. A wave on the enemy side of the map buys vision, forces a response, and reduces the chance that the whole opposing team can collapse immediately.
- Choose the runner before touching it. The carrier should have enough health, stamina, route knowledge, or mobility to survive a long rotation.
- Assign escorts and a deposit team. One or two allies can screen the runner while the rest establish control around the destination and nearby approaches.
- Expect an audible chase. The runner is hidden from the minimap, but the Urn speaks every six seconds and can be heard by nearby enemies.
- Deposit immediately on arrival. The current objective completes as soon as the runner reaches the drop-off point.
- Secure the released soul orbs. Delivery creates the payout opportunity; your team still needs to collect the orbs instead of abandoning the area.

What Can The Urn Runner Do?
| Action | Allowed? | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Use weapons | Yes | The June 30 rework removed the old disarm |
| Use abilities and items | Yes | The old silence was removed, but specific movement interactions can still drop the Urn |
| Parry | No | The carrier cannot parry while holding the Urn |
| Drop it manually | No | There is no clean voluntary handoff button |
| Hide on the minimap | Yes | The carrier is not automatically revealed |
| Move silently | No | The Urn talks every six seconds and is easier for nearby enemies to hear |
The key tradeoff is freedom without safety. The runner can shoot, cast, and use items, but cannot parry and cannot decide to drop the objective before an enemy reaches them. A route that depends on one narrow escape tool should be checked against the Urn’s specific drop interactions.
What Makes The Urn Drop?
Valve’s current rules drop the Soul Urn when the carrier is hit by a light melee or heavy melee, is stunned, or is killed. Passing through a Doorman doorway or using Mirage teleport also drops it. The carrier cannot manually place it on the ground.
That makes melee and reliable crowd control the cleanest contest tools. Defenders do not always need to kill a durable runner immediately; forcing the Urn down can stop the timer, break the route, and create a fight over the dropped objective. For the escorting team, screen melee angles and do not let a single enemy wait unseen at the deposit approach.
After a forced drop, the Urn stays where it fell instead of walking back to its original spawn point. Both teams should treat that location as a new temporary objective. Reset vision, decide who will pick it up, and remember that the bounty clock belongs to the active run rather than starting as a completely fresh reward.
Deadlock Urn Rewards And Bounty Formula
The base runner bounty is 250 plus 70 souls for every game minute. Valve also keeps a comeback component, so the exact payout can be higher for a trailing team. On deposit, the reward is released as soul orbs. If an ally secures those orbs, the ally shares the bounty with the runner.
| Spawn time | Base runner bounty before comeback scaling or decay |
|---|---|
| 10:00 | 950 souls |
| 15:00 | 1,300 souls |
| 20:00 | 1,650 souls |
| 25:00 | 2,000 souls |
| 30:00 | 2,350 souls |
The carrier also receives four permanent buffs on a successful deposit. That reward belongs to the runner, which makes carrier choice matter beyond movement speed. A hero who survives long fights and uses multiple stats well can extract more value from permanent upgrades than a teammate selected only because they happened to stand beside the pickup.
How Urn Bounty Decay Works
The value begins decaying 45 seconds after pickup. It then drains over the next 45 seconds, and the Urn is removed when the bounty reaches zero. A failed run can therefore disappear around 90 seconds after pickup even if the carrier is still trying to cross the map.
The timer changes the correct response to trouble. A short reset behind cover can preserve a valuable run. A long tour through your own jungle may deliver almost nothing. If the direct route becomes impossible, compare the remaining bounty with the risk of feeding a kill and four permanent buffs worth of future pressure.
Current Urn Runner Bonuses
The July 9 patch removed the normal flat sprint bonus, reduced the standard move-speed bonus from +3.5 to +2 meters per second, and increased stamina recovery from +15% to +25%. The trailing-team sprint bonus was reduced from +7 to +5 meters per second.
Comeback benefits scale with how far a team trails in net worth, from no extra bonus at even net worth to the full effect at 15% behind. That means the Urn can offer a faster runner to the losing side without turning every slightly behind team into the full comeback state.
How To Defend An Urn Run
- Push first. A runner crossing four empty lanes is easier to track and collapse on than one moving behind pressure.
- Control the destination early. The deposit is known, so waiting until the runner arrives gives the enemy free setup time.
- Protect melee range. One light melee is enough to force a drop.
- Save a cleanse or escape for control. A stun drops the Urn even when it would not kill the carrier.
- Listen for the Urn. The carrier is not on the minimap, but nearby players receive an audio clue every six seconds.
- Stay for the orbs. A delivery without control of the released souls leaves the economic job unfinished.
How To Stop The Enemy Urn Runner
- Check the opposite-end deposit marker as soon as the Urn is taken.
- Cut the route instead of chasing from behind.
- Place a durable hero or reliable stun on the final approach.
- Use light melee when it is safer than charging a slow heavy melee.
- Fight over the dropped Urn only after checking nearby lanes and enemy reinforcements.
- If the bounty clock is nearly empty, avoid trading several deaths for an objective that is about to disappear.
Soul Urn Versus Unstable Rift
| Objective | Soul Urn | Unstable Rift |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | 10:00, then every five minutes | Variable timing around its interval, with a global warning |
| Location | Cross-map run from one end to the other | Contested zone in a randomly selected lane |
| Win condition | Carry and deposit the Urn | Secure the objective area |
| Main reward | Runner bounty, shareable soul orbs, and four permanent runner buffs | Objective bounty and a wave of empowered Rift Troopers |
| Dependency | Does not start the Rift | Does not require an Urn delivery |
This separation is the most important correction to older strategy content. Valve renamed King of the Hill to Unstable Rift and removed the delivery requirement on June 30. Teams can plan for both objectives independently, and their timings can create overlapping map pressure.
Deadlock Urn FAQ
When does the Deadlock Urn spawn?
The first Soul Urn spawns at 10:00, followed by scheduled spawns at 15:00, 20:00, 25:00, and every five minutes after.
Where do you deliver the Urn?
Carry it from its pickup point at one end of the map to the marked deposit at the opposite end. Check the current map marker rather than assuming one fixed direction.
Does the Urn reveal the runner?
No. The current runner is not automatically revealed on the minimap. The Urn is deliberately loud, however, and speaks every six seconds so nearby enemies can track it by sound.
Can the Urn runner use abilities and items?
Yes. The June 30 rework removed the old disarm and silence. The runner cannot parry, cannot manually drop the Urn, and loses it when hit by melee, stunned, killed, or moved through certain teleport interactions.
How many permanent buffs does the Urn give?
A successful deposit currently gives the runner four permanent buffs.
Does delivering the Urn start the Unstable Rift?
No. The Soul Urn and Unstable Rift have been independent objectives since June 30, 2026.
What happens if nobody picks up the Urn?
Three minutes after spawning, it begins walking very slowly toward the deposit location on its own.
The Short Version
Plan for the Soul Urn at 10 minutes and every five minutes after. Push lanes before pickup, choose a runner who can use the four permanent buffs, control the opposite-end deposit, protect against melee and stuns, and stay long enough to secure the released soul orbs. The runner is hidden from the minimap but audible, can fight but cannot parry, and is racing a bounty that begins decaying after 45 seconds.
