Mina Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities, Combos & Tips
A current Spirit-burst guide to Rake, Sanguine Retreat, Love Bites, Nox Nostra, popular items, and safer teamfight angles.
Build the bite, escape the answer, and release the swarm at the right moment.
Updated July 21, 2026: Mina is a high-complexity ranged Spirit-damage marksman who builds Love Bites through weapon hits, uses Rake for burst and sustain, escapes through Sanguine Retreat, and releases a silencing bat swarm with Nox Nostra.
Valve describes Mina as a glass cannon. Her damage comes from maintaining enough line of sight to build Love Bites while staying disciplined with Sanguine Retreat. The hero is dangerous when she can prepare marks before Nox Nostra, and fragile when she spends her escape merely to begin a fight.
Mina At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Primary job | Ranged Spirit burst, harassment, and mobile teamfight damage |
| Game-data type | Marksman |
| Complexity | 3 of 3 |
| Starting health | 660 |
| Move speed and stamina | 6.5 move speed and 2 stamina |
| Best at | Building ranged pressure, finishing damaged targets, and silencing grouped enemies |
| Main risk | Low durability, reduced debuff resistance, and wasting Sanguine Retreat |
Mina Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rake | Hits a cone for Spirit damage, adds missing-health damage against heroes, and heals Mina when it kills units. | Finish a damaged target, clear clustered units, or stabilize through last hits without giving up pressure. |
| 2 | Sanguine Retreat | Transforms Mina into bats and moves her through a short escape or reposition window with a recast. | Dodge a committed threat, change the firing angle, or leave after the burst rather than starting every combo with it. |
| 3 | Love Bites | Weapon hits build a target-specific effect that triggers bonus Spirit damage and permanently strengthens Mina's vampiric power when activated. | Maintain ranged contact across several targets and prepare additional Nox Nostra pressure. |
| 4 | Nox Nostra | Releases a large swarm of bats that hunts nearby enemies, deals repeated Spirit damage, and silences targets; Love Bites can add more bats. | Convert prepared marks into a major teamfight, punish grouped enemies, or finish a fight after control has already begun. |
The June 30 update raised Rake’s missing-health damage from 5% to 6%, improved the range upgrade on Sanguine Retreat, and increased Nox Nostra damage. Mina also carries an innate -8% debuff resistance, so careless positioning is punished more heavily than the mobility animation suggests.
Best Mina Ability Order
The most-used current path starts Love Bites, rapidly upgrades Rake, unlocks Sanguine Retreat, then returns to Love Bites before the first Nox Nostra upgrade.
- Love Bites
- Rake
- Rake
- Sanguine Retreat
- Rake
- Love Bites
- Nox Nostra
This path gives Mina a functional passive immediately and turns Rake into the early burst-and-sustain tool. Move Sanguine Retreat earlier when survival is the lane problem, and do not rush ultimate upgrades before you can reliably prepare Love Bites and stay alive through the cast window.
Mina Build Priorities
| Stage | Popular item package | Why players buy it |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Extra Spirit, Mystic Burst, Extra Stamina, Mystic Expansion | Improves the first Spirit-damage thresholds, mobility margin, and the area Mina can threaten. |
| Core | Improved Spirit, Quicksilver Reload, Mystic Shot, Compress Cooldown | Supports repeated passive setup, reload flow, mixed gun-and-Spirit pressure, and more frequent abilities. |
| Scaling | Tankbuster, Superior Cooldown, Greater Expansion, Spirit Shredder Bullets | Adds target scaling, uptime, area, and resistance pressure for longer fights. |
| Late | Boundless Spirit, Spirit Burn, Transcendent Cooldown, Spirit Rend | Turns a prepared late-game Nox Nostra and Rake cycle into a much larger Spirit threat. |
The recent item sample is overwhelmingly Spirit-focused, but a glass-cannon build only works when Sanguine Retreat and positioning keep Mina active. Buy protection, debuff removal, or stamina before another damage tier when the enemy can reach her consistently.

How To Play Mina
Lane
Start Love Bites pressure with controlled weapon hits and use Rake when it can damage a hero or secure healing from a kill. Hold Sanguine Retreat until the opponent commits, unless changing angle creates a clearly safe finish.
Mid Game
Arrive early enough to build Love Bites before the decisive spell exchange. Mina loses much of her threat when she appears only after enemies have already spread or when she must spend Retreat just to enter range.
Teamfights
Use cover and side angles to prepare marks, wait for enemies to group or spend control, then release Nox Nostra while you still have a retreat plan. Rake damaged targets as the swarm creates pressure.
Late Game
Your damage can scale sharply, but late control can remove Mina just as quickly. Treat Sanguine Retreat as part of the damage plan because surviving long enough for a second spell cycle is often worth more than one extra offensive item.
Mina Combos And Fight Patterns
- Lane burst: Build Love Bites with weapon hits, trigger the bonus, then Rake as the target loses health and Retreat away from the response.
- Prepared ultimate: Apply Love Bites across reachable enemies, wait for allied control, cast Nox Nostra, then use Rake on the lowest target.
- Defensive reversal: Sanguine Retreat through or away from the engage, recast to a new angle, rebuild Love Bites, and only then commit the ultimate.
Mina Strengths And Weaknesses

How To Counter Mina
- Force Sanguine Retreat before committing the main control sequence.
- Break line of sight so Mina cannot build Love Bites freely across the team.
- Spread before Nox Nostra and avoid handing the swarm several prepared targets.
- Use debuffs and control deliberately because Mina has reduced debuff resistance.
- Pressure her defensive slots so a pure Spirit build cannot remain comfortable.
Common Mina Mistakes
- Opening every fight with Sanguine Retreat and losing the exit.
- Casting Nox Nostra before building useful Love Bites pressure.
- Ignoring weapon accuracy because the final build is labeled Spirit.
- Buying only damage despite repeated deaths to control or dive.
- Using Rake only for wave clear and missing its missing-health finishing value.
Mina Lore
Mina Ha was a wealthy socialite whose arranged path into American royalty ended when her fiance was assassinated. Her parents answered the disappointment by purchasing immortality from a vampire. Mina now intends to climb New York's vampire society with the same combination of entitlement, study, and rule-bending she used as a human.

Mina FAQ
Is Mina beginner friendly?
No. Current game data rates Mina complexity 3 of 3, and her passive setup, escape timing, low durability, and ultimate preparation all demand attention.
What role is Mina?
Mina is a ranged Spirit-damage marksman and harasser who builds target pressure with gunfire, then converts it into burst and a silencing ultimate.
What should Mina upgrade first?
The most-used current path unlocks Love Bites first, then invests heavily in Rake before returning to passive and ultimate upgrades.
Does Mina Nox Nostra silence?
Yes. Valve's official Mina spotlight describes the bat swarm as hunting and silencing nearby enemies.
What counters Mina?
Reliable dive, debuffs, broken line of sight, and forcing Sanguine Retreat before the main fight all reduce her prepared Spirit burst.
Sources And Methodology
The ability names, current game-data type, complexity, starting stats, and item popularity were checked July 21, 2026 through the independent Deadlock API, which parses current game data. The normal-match analytics window began June 20, 2026 and included 332,433 Mina appearances. The displayed ability path was the most-used complete sequence in a sample of 6,732 matches.
Popularity is not proof that an item or order causes wins. Players buy cheap items more often, late items appear mainly in long games, and hero difficulty changes outcomes. Treat the tables as a current starting route, then adapt to lane pressure, enemy damage, healing, crowd control, and your team composition.
Official source note: Valve’s Six New Heroes Mina spotlight establishes the hero’s intended identity. The latest relevant official update buffed Rake, Sanguine Retreat, and Nox Nostra on June 30, 2026. Deadlock remains in active development, so ability values, items, and strategy can change.
