The Doorman Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Doors & Hotel
Learn The Doorman abilities, the current Spirit build, skill priority, Doorway routes, Luggage Cart pulls, Hotel Guest, and counterplay.
Rewriting an approach with Doorway, pulling a line with Luggage Cart, and removing one committed target through Hotel Guest
Updated July 21, 2026: The Doorman is a low-complexity mystic on paper but a map-control specialist in practice. He throws a delayed Call Bell, connects space with Doorway, pulls heroes using Luggage Cart, and sends one target into the Baroness Hotel with Hotel Guest.
The Doorman is strongest when the team understands both ends of the plan. Call Bell softens an area, Doorway changes movement and projectile geometry, Luggage Cart drags a line, and Hotel Guest temporarily removes a target. A clever portal that allies cannot read is often less useful than a simple safe angle.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed The Doorman at a 20.81% pick rate and 49.70% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.
The Doorman At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Game-data type | Mystic |
| Practical role | Map-control mystic, projectile-routing specialist, line displacement support, and single-target removal threat |
| Complexity | 1 of 3 |
| Starting health | 755 |
| Move speed and stamina | 7.9 m/s and 3 stamina |
| Best at | Rewriting an approach with Doorway, pulling a line with Luggage Cart, and removing one committed target through Hotel Guest |
| Main risk | Creating a Doorway that helps enemy projectiles or movement more than the team, then spending Hotel Guest without useful follow-up |
The Doorman Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Call Bell | Throws a bell for impact Spirit damage, then explodes after a delay for more damage, reduced weapon accuracy, and movement slow; it can be shot to detonate early. | Slow the route before a Cart pull, detonate at exact timing, or make an enemy weapon trade less reliable. |
| 2 | Doorway | Places two connected doors that transport players and most projectiles until the duration ends, within a maximum placement distance. | Create a safe firing angle, shorten a rotation, redirect pressure, or give allies a clear entrance and exit that does not expose them on arrival. |
| 3 | Luggage Cart | Sends a cart forward that deals Spirit damage and pulls enemy heroes along its path; alt-cast can target friendly heroes. | Drag enemies through Bell pressure, pull an ally out of danger, or line several heroes for team follow-up. |
| 4 | Hotel Guest | Sends a target's body to the Baroness Hotel, where it must reach the exit before returning; the stay deals Spirit damage and missing checkout adds punishment. | Remove the target who protects the enemy formation, isolate a vulnerable carry, or force a dangerous return point while allies prepare. |
The Doorman controls paths more than raw space. Doorway can carry heroes and projectiles, which makes orientation and communication critical. Call Bell gives the path a debuff, Luggage Cart changes who travels through it, and Hotel Guest interrupts the normal teamfight order by removing one body from the map.
Best The Doorman Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Call Bell
- Luggage Cart
- Hotel Guest
- Doorway
This is the most-played completed max-order route in the current standard-match sample. It prioritizes reliable Spirit pressure and displacement before Hotel Guest. Doorway retains its defining utility at base value even when its final upgrades arrive last.
The Doorman Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Opening Rounds, High-Velocity Rounds, Extra Charge, Mystic Burst | Supports the opening weapon shot, easier projectile confirmation, and additional Spirit threats around Bell and Cart. |
| Core | Tankbuster, Rapid Recharge, Mystic Expansion, Extra Health | Scales charged Spirit casts and area coverage while adding enough health to stand near the route being controlled. |
| Late | Improved Spirit, Boundless Spirit, Spirit Burn, Greater Expansion | Turns repeated Bell and Cart connections into broad late Spirit pressure against grouped enemies. |
The current pro sample combines an accurate weapon opening with charges, recharge, expansion, and heavy Spirit scaling. The route makes Call Bell and Luggage Cart reliable damage tools while Doorway remains strategic utility. Extra Health and later defensive choices matter because a portal controller still has to survive at one end of the route.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live The Doorman pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Buy Warp Stone when Doorway placement alone cannot reach the safe control angle.
- Use Counterspell when targeted control removes The Doorman before Hotel Guest or Cart can resolve.
- Choose Healbane when repeated Bell and Cart damage is erased by enemy recovery.
How To Play The Doorman
Lane
Use Call Bell to contest a soul and detonate it when the opponent commits. A short, obvious Doorway between cover positions is usually more valuable than a theatrical route. Hold Luggage Cart for a real pull or ally rescue rather than harmless chip.
Mid Game
Place the exit door before the fight so allies can see it. Bell the destination, send Luggage Cart through the useful line, and fire through Doorway only when the exit is not giving the opponent a better angle back. Hotel Guest the hero whose absence changes the skirmish.
Teamfights
The Doorman can split the fight without dealing the final blow. Remove a protector or carry, pull another target away from help, and prepare damage around the return point. Keep one Doorway route available for allied repositioning instead of spending every tool offensively.
Late Game
A bad portal can deliver enemy pressure into the backline. Check both ends, communicate the route, and close the plan around the objective. Hotel Guest should create a temporary numbers advantage or a lethal checkout, not merely delay damage on a target the team was already winning against.
The Doorman Combos And Fight Patterns
- Service route: place Doorway between cover and the flank, Call Bell the exit, fire or send Cart through the route, then retreat through the same geometry.
- Forced checkout: Hotel Guest the priority target, prepare Bell and allied damage around the return point, then use Luggage Cart to disrupt the rescue.
- Rescue line: alt-cast Luggage Cart on the threatened ally, pull them toward Doorway, then slow pursuers with an early Bell detonation.

How To Counter The Doorman
- Check both Doorway endpoints before entering or firing through one.
- Move away from the delayed Call Bell explosion.
- Spread across Luggage Cart's line instead of stacking behind one another.
- Prepare protection at the Hotel Guest return point.
- Pressure The Doorman while Doorway is committed somewhere else.
Common The Doorman Mistakes
- Placing a Doorway without checking the enemy angle at its exit.
- Using Hotel Guest on a target the team needed to burst immediately.
- Forgetting that most projectiles can use the portal in both directions.
- Sending Luggage Cart through allies without communicating its destination.
- Building only Spirit damage while dying at the portal entrance.
The Doorman Lore
The Doorman is the proper attendant of the Baroness Hotel and a fledgling god visiting the human plane. What began as a short stay became a fascination with the strange demands of New York service work.

The Doorman FAQ
What is the best Doorman build?
The current pro sample opens with weapon accuracy, then emphasizes charges, Tankbuster, expansion, Improved and Boundless Spirit, Spirit Burn, and enough health to control a portal endpoint.
What can use The Doorman Doorway?
Players and most projectiles can enter one connected door and leave through the other until the doors close.
What should The Doorman max first?
The largest current completed route maxes Call Bell, then Luggage Cart, Hotel Guest, and Doorway.
What counters The Doorman?
Watching both door endpoints, leaving Bell, spreading against Cart, protecting the hotel return point, and pressuring committed portals reduce his control.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 72-game The Doorman pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
