Drifter Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities & Eternal Night
Learn Drifter abilities, the current build, skill priority, isolation routes, Stalker's Mark teleports, Eternal Night timing, and counterplay.
Finding separated targets, appearing behind marked enemies, and converting isolated kills into permanent weapon damage
Updated July 21, 2026: Drifter is a high-complexity assassin who tracks isolated heroes, teleports behind a bleeding target, and turns close-range pressure into permanent weapon scaling.
Drifter wants the fight to split. Stalker's Mark creates access, Bloodscent identifies and amplifies isolated targets, Rend rewards close contact, and Eternal Night can manufacture isolation by cutting enemy vision. The entry is powerful only when Drifter knows where the escape will be.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed Drifter at a 52.04% pick rate and 51.42% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.
Drifter At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Game-data type | Assassin |
| Practical role | Isolation assassin, melee-range finisher, backline tracker, and scaling weapon threat |
| Complexity | 3 of 3 |
| Starting health | 755 |
| Move speed and stamina | 6.9 m/s and 3 stamina |
| Best at | Finding separated targets, appearing behind marked enemies, and converting isolated kills into permanent weapon damage |
| Main risk | Entering a grouped team without an exit or spending Eternal Night before a real kill window exists |
Drifter Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rend | Swipes a cone in front for Spirit damage and adds bonus melee damage when the target is close. | Finish the approach at close range, hit several nearby targets, or cash in after teleporting behind a marked enemy. |
| 2 | Stalker's Mark | Marks the first target hit with a damaging bleed; reactivating while it bleeds teleports Drifter behind that enemy. | Create the flank, dodge a visible line of fire, or reach the isolated target without walking through the front line. |
| 3 | Bloodscent | Tracks isolated heroes, amplifies damage against them, and grants permanent weapon damage when isolated heroes die nearby. The active reveals trails toward nearby heroes. | Confirm where a retreating target went, select the correct isolated victim, and avoid wasting time on a grouped frontliner. |
| 4 | Eternal Night | Severely limits nearby enemies' vision, briefly reveals them to Drifter, treats them as isolated, and grants Drifter sprint speed. | Break coordinated protection, force multiple private fights, or create the isolation condition when the enemy refuses to split. |
Bloodscent defines the kit: ordinary separated enemies are already valuable, while Eternal Night temporarily makes affected enemies count as isolated. Stalker's Mark is access rather than safety, so teleport only after checking the destination and nearby control.
Best Drifter Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Rend
- Stalker's Mark
- Bloodscent
- Eternal Night
This is the largest completed max-order route in current normal-match data. A Bloodscent-first route can still fit a player who is consistently converting isolated deaths and values the scaling engine over immediate Rend pressure.
Drifter Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Stalker, Spirit Strike, Slowing Bullets, Melee Lifesteal | Supports close contact, stickiness, Spirit pressure, and health recovery during early isolation attempts. |
| Core | Spirit Snatch, Extra Health, Bullet Resist Shredder, Hunter's Aura | Rewards fighting one nearby hero while adding enough health and resistance pressure to survive the commitment. |
| Late | Weighted Shots, Counterspell, Toxic Bullets, Spirit Resilience | Converts permanent weapon scaling into sustained damage and protects the assassin during expensive late fights. |
The current pro sample is a hybrid close-range route. It values reliable access and durability before luxury damage because Drifter earns nothing from isolation scaling when the first teleport becomes an immediate death.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live Drifter pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Use Silencer when the target's instant ability response repeatedly stops the finish.
- Buy Superior Duration when longer Eternal Night pressure creates more value than another raw damage slot.
- Choose Debuff Reducer, Metal Skin, or another direct defense against the specific control or damage that punishes every teleport.
How To Play Drifter
Lane
Use Rend where the cone can secure a soul and pressure the opponent without surrendering the return trade. Stalker's Mark threatens a sudden angle, but a lane teleport is only good when enemy control and the landing space are known.
Mid Game
Watch side lanes, retreat routes, and split objective setups for isolated targets. Activate Bloodscent when information matters, then approach through cover before using the mark so the teleport is a finish rather than the whole journey.
Teamfights
Let the fight stretch before committing. Eternal Night can break shared vision and turn several enemies into isolated targets; choose one, mark it, and keep an exit target or route available instead of bouncing blindly through the group.
Late Game
Permanent weapon damage rewards earlier conversions, but late deaths are still decisive. Hunt a genuinely separated carry or use Eternal Night with allied pressure; do not trade Drifter for the first body visible at the base.
Drifter Combos And Fight Patterns
- Basic hunt: activate Bloodscent, approach through cover, land Stalker’s Mark, reactivate behind the target, then Rend and continue close-range fire.
- Forced isolation: cast Eternal Night as both teams commit, identify the least protected affected hero, mark and teleport, then leave before vision coordination returns.
- Close finish: maintain gun pressure until the target spends movement, use the mark to follow the escape, then Rend inside the bonus-melee range.
Drifter Strengths And Weaknesses

How To Counter Drifter
- Stay close enough to allies that ordinary Bloodscent isolation does not activate for free.
- Watch the marked target and prepare control at the likely teleport destination.
- Use defensive movement after Drifter commits rather than before the mark lands.
- Spread carefully during Eternal Night without abandoning peel responsibilities.
- Punish Drifter's low base health when he enters before allied pressure arrives.
Common Drifter Mistakes
- Teleporting behind a target without checking who stands there.
- Chasing a grouped frontliner instead of using Bloodscent information.
- Casting Eternal Night before either team is committed.
- Buying only damage and dying during the first control effect.
- Ignoring escape planning because the mark solves the entry.
Drifter Lore
The Drifter is an ancient nameless vampire roaming America. He rejects vampiric titles and law, drawing execution orders from North American Baronies while continuing to prey on the living and do as he pleases.

Drifter FAQ
What makes an enemy isolated for Drifter?
Bloodscent checks whether a hero is separated from allies, while Eternal Night explicitly makes affected enemies count as isolated for its duration.
What is the best Drifter build?
The current pro sample starts with close-range and slowing tools, moves into Spirit Snatch, health and resistance pressure, then adds Weighted Shots and defensive late items.
How does Stalker's Mark work?
The mark bleeds the first target hit. While that bleed is active, Drifter can reactivate the ability to appear behind the marked enemy.
What counters Drifter?
Grouped positioning, prepared control at the teleport destination, defensive movement after commitment, and burst against his low starting health are the cleanest answers.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 153-game Drifter pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
