Kelvin Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities & Ice Path
Learn Kelvin abilities, the current support build, skill priority, Frost Grenade healing, Ice Path routes, Frozen Shelter timing, and counterplay.
Healing a formation with Frost Grenade, gliding over terrain to slow a flank, and dividing a decisive fight with Frozen Shelter
Updated July 21, 2026: Kelvin is a medium-complexity brawler who heals allies and slows enemies with Frost Grenade, creates a floating Ice Path, progressively slows weapon and movement speed with Arctic Beam, and encloses a target in Frozen Shelter.
Kelvin is a support who changes terrain and fight boundaries. Frost Grenade rewards mixed ally-enemy areas, Ice Path creates elevation and team movement, Arctic Beam weakens a target over sustained contact, and Frozen Shelter decides who can interact. The dome is powerful precisely because a wrong boundary can help the enemy.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed Kelvin at a 18.79% pick rate and 53.54% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.

Kelvin Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Frost Grenade | Throws a freezing grenade that heals allies while dealing Spirit damage and applying movement slow to enemies. | Aim for mixed fights where one explosion sustains teammates and slows the target they are already pressuring. |
| 2 | Ice Path | Creates a floating trail that grants movement bonuses to Kelvin and allies; Kelvin gains slow resistance and can steer the path vertically. | Reach a flank, create a team route over terrain, maintain beam contact, or leave a fight without spending every stamina charge. |
| 3 | Arctic Beam | Channels freezing energy that deals damage and progressively reduces enemy movement and fire rate; Kelvin moves more slowly while channeling and the beam can claim souls. | Hold contact on the priority weapon threat after movement is spent, then release before the reduced self-movement becomes dangerous. |
| 4 | Frozen Shelter | Creates an impenetrable dome around Kelvin or a targeted hero; allies inside regenerate rapidly, enemies are slowed, and covered objectives become frozen and invulnerable. | Save allies, stall an objective, split the enemy formation, or isolate a favorable close fight after checking exactly who will be enclosed. |
Kelvin wins through boundary decisions. Grenade supports both sides of the trade, Path changes how the team reaches it, Beam weakens sustained weapon pressure, and Shelter decides which participants can interact. The strongest casts solve an immediate problem without creating a worse one outside the dome.
Best Kelvin Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Frost Grenade
- Arctic Beam
- Ice Path
- Frozen Shelter
This is the most-played completed max-order route in the current standard-match sample. It prioritizes the repeatable heal-and-damage grenade and progressive beam slow before movement. Frozen Shelter remains decisive at base value even when its final upgrades arrive last.
Kelvin Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Extra Regen, Extra Charge, Monster Rounds, Extra Spirit | Stabilizes lane health, adds grenade access, improves wave pressure, and increases early Spirit value. |
| Core | Healing Booster, Mystic Expansion, Enchanter's Emblem, Slowing Hex | Improves allied recovery, area coverage, Spirit output, and control before the sustained beam. |
| Late | Superior Cooldown, Warp Stone, Refresher, Greater Expansion | Creates more frequent large-area interventions and a second high-impact dome or ability cycle. |
Tracklock currently shows only five pro games in this rolling sample, so exact item frequencies are highly directional. The coherent support route is charge and recovery early, then healing, area, cooldown, repositioning, and Refresher. Use the structure, not the percentages, until the sample grows.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live Kelvin pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Buy Debuff Reducer when control repeatedly ends Ice Path or Beam before the team gains value.
- Use Healbane when Kelvin must help finish a high-sustain target instead of only extending allies.
- Choose Rescue Beam when the team needs a save that does not change the entire fight boundary like Frozen Shelter.
How To Play Kelvin
Lane
Aim Frost Grenade so the same cast touches Kelvin or an ally and the enemy when possible. Monster Rounds and Beam can secure lane pressure, but do not channel in the open after the opponent turns. Keep Ice Path available for a real angle or escape.
Mid Game
Build a Path that allies can actually follow, then arrive beside the formation rather than alone above it. Grenade the first exchange, Beam the weapon threat after movement is spent, and save Shelter for a clearly favorable subset of the fight.
Teamfights
Decide before casting Frozen Shelter whether the goal is a save, isolation, or objective stall. Communicate the boundary, heal inside it, and prepare the exit. Refresher can create a second decision, but only if the first dome does not strand the team.
Late Game
Objectives make Shelter more powerful and more dangerous because covered objectives become invulnerable. Track allied burst, enemy cooldowns, and the timer before freezing the area. Use Warp Stone and Path to control where Kelvin stands when the dome ends.
Kelvin Combos And Fight Patterns
- Support entry: Ice Path with allies, Frost Grenade the first collision, then Arctic Beam the weapon threat while teammates close.
- Isolation dome: slow the priority target with Grenade and Beam, cast Frozen Shelter around the favorable group, then heal and hold until outside help is denied.
- Objective stall: Shelter the threatened objective at the last useful moment, restore allies inside, then use Path to reset position when invulnerability ends.

How To Counter Kelvin
- Spread so Frost Grenade cannot heal and damage several targets together.
- Break Arctic Beam contact before its slow stacks.
- Watch the Ice Path endpoint and pressure Kelvin on arrival.
- Delay major cooldowns until Frozen Shelter ends.
- Position so the dome cannot isolate a favorable close fight for Kelvin.
Common Kelvin Mistakes
- Treating a five-game pro sample as a solved build.
- Channeling Arctic Beam after the target has already escaped.
- Creating an Ice Path that delivers Kelvin without allies.
- Freezing an objective while the allied team is ready to finish it.
- Casting Shelter without checking every hero inside and outside.
Kelvin Lore
Kelvin was a famous adventuring scientist who vanished while searching for an eighth astral gate in the Arctic. His frozen body returned without pulse or blood, yet alive and carrying a rune-marked stone, with no memory of the expedition.

Kelvin FAQ
What is the best Kelvin build?
The current tiny pro sample suggests charges, healing, Spirit area, cooldown, Warp Stone, and Refresher, but five games are not enough to treat exact purchase rates as settled.
Does Kelvin Frozen Shelter affect objectives?
Yes. Objectives covered by Frozen Shelter become frozen and invulnerable while the dome is active.
What should Kelvin max first?
The largest current completed route maxes Frost Grenade, then Arctic Beam, Ice Path, and Frozen Shelter.
What counters Kelvin?
Spreading against Grenade, breaking Beam contact, watching Path endpoints, saving cooldowns through Shelter, and avoiding unfavorable dome groups reduce Kelvin's control.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 5-game Kelvin pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
