Paige Deadlock Guide (2026): Build, Abilities & Support
Learn Paige abilities, the current Spirit build, skill priority, Bookwyrm lanes, Plot Armor saves, Captivating Read setups, and Rallying Charge.
Sending pressure down a predictable lane, protecting the ally taking contact, and reinforcing a distant fight with a long-traveling wave
Updated July 21, 2026: Paige is a low-complexity mystic whose kit sends a burning Bookwyrm forward, barriers an ally for protection and weapon damage, sets a delayed area immobilize, and launches a city-wide healing and damage wave.
Paige should see the fight without becoming its first target. Bookwyrm rewards long lanes, Plot Armor helps the teammate taking contact, Captivating Read controls where enemies can remain, and Rallying Charge gains value when the wave has enough distance to travel before it reaches the fight.
Current meta snapshot: Tracklock’s standard-mode, all-rank table showed Paige at a 28.66% pick rate and 51.93% win rate when checked July 21. These numbers move as matches arrive; they explain why this guide exists, not what every future patch will look like.
Paige At A Glance
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| Game-data type | Mystic |
| Practical role | Ranged Spirit controller, ally barrier support, delayed area catch, and map-wide fight reinforcement |
| Complexity | 1 of 3 |
| Starting health | 680 |
| Move speed and stamina | 6.9 m/s and 3 stamina |
| Best at | Sending pressure down a predictable lane, protecting the ally taking contact, and reinforcing a distant fight with a long-traveling wave |
| Main risk | Standing too close to the front with the lowest starting health in this batch or firing Rallying Charge too late for its travel time |
Paige Abilities
| Slot | Ability | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bookwyrm | Summons a dragon at the target location that flies forward, deals Spirit damage, and leaves a burning trail. | Send it along a lane or corridor, clear pressure from range, and make an escape route costly to cross. |
| 2 | Plot Armor | Places a barrier on an ally and grants bonus weapon damage while the barrier holds. | Protect the teammate about to trade, save a focused carry, or strengthen a coordinated weapon-damage window. |
| 3 | Captivating Read | Creates a latent area slow that later deals Spirit damage and immobilizes enemies. | Prepare an objective entrance, layer beneath allied control, or make the enemy choose between leaving early and being rooted. |
| 4 | Rallying Charge | Sends a city-wide wave that heals allies and damages enemies, scaling with the distance it travels. | Launch before a distant fight fully begins, send through several allies, and use the map to earn more value than a point-blank cast. |
Paige is approachable mechanically, but the timing is predictive. Bookwyrm and Rallying Charge travel, Captivating Read activates later, and Plot Armor must arrive before the protected ally loses the trade. The best Paige decisions start where the fight is going, not where it was when the button was pressed.
Best Paige Ability Order
Tracklock’s largest completed skill-max route on the July 9 patch prioritized:
- Bookwyrm
- Plot Armor
- Captivating Read
- Rallying Charge
This is the largest completed max-order route in the current standard-match sample. It prioritizes repeatable lane pressure and the ally barrier before the delayed catch. Rallying Charge remains strategically important at base value even when its final upgrades arrive last.
Paige Build
| Stage | Current popular package | What it supports |
|---|---|---|
| Early | High-Velocity Rounds, Opening Rounds, Grit, Extra Health | Adds safe lane damage and enough durability for a low-health support to survive while abilities travel. |
| Core | Mystic Expansion, Knockdown, Extra Charge, Spirit Shielding | Broadens area control, adds a direct catch, increases spell availability, and protects Paige from Spirit retaliation. |
| Late | Greater Expansion, Superior Cooldown, Rapid Recharge, Superior Duration | Scales the area and frequency of Paige control while extending the windows her team can exploit. |
Tracklock currently shows only 43 pro games for this rolling sample, so the exact item frequencies are a directional snapshot. The route itself is coherent: lane-safe weapon tools and health first, then expansion, charges, cooldown, and duration for repeated area control and ally support.
This is a dated route, not a shopping script. Check the live Paige pro-build sample, compare alternatives in the Deadlock builds guide, and use the items guide when the enemy composition demands a counter purchase.
Situational Purchases
- Buy Divine Barrier when a second immediate protection tool matters more than additional damage.
- Use Debuff Reducer or a direct resistance item when Paige is repeatedly controlled before she can protect an ally.
- Choose Slowing Hex when Captivating Read needs a more reliable setup against mobile targets.
How To Play Paige
Lane
Send Bookwyrm through both the wave and the opponent when the line is available. Hold Plot Armor for the real trade, and place Captivating Read where the enemy must leave cover or abandon a soul rather than directly under a target already moving away.
Mid Game
Play from the back edge of the rotation. Bookwyrm blocks a route, Knockdown or allied control starts the catch, Captivating Read occupies the exit, and Plot Armor goes on the ally who will remain visible while Paige keeps distance.
Teamfights
Launch Rallying Charge early enough to cross the map or team before the health swing is decided. Use expansion to cover a meaningful entrance, keep Plot Armor on the damage dealer being answered, and reposition after each cast instead of standing beside the effect.
Late Game
Paige cannot absorb a late dive with 680 starting health. Preserve vision and spacing, predict the next objective approach, and use repeated charges and cooldown investment to control the fight before enemies reach her position.
Paige Combos And Fight Patterns
- Prepared catch: place Captivating Read on the retreat, use Knockdown or allied control to delay the target, then send Bookwyrm through the immobilize zone.
- Protected push: give Plot Armor to the ally taking the angle, send Bookwyrm down the lane, and use the barrier weapon bonus while enemies cross the burning trail.
- Long-range reinforcement: read the developing fight on the minimap, launch Rallying Charge from distance, then rotate behind the wave and place Captivating Read at the next exit.
Paige Strengths And Weaknesses

How To Counter Paige
- Dive Paige after identifying that Plot Armor was spent on someone else.
- Leave Captivating Read before the delayed damage and immobilize resolve.
- Step away from Bookwyrm lanes and do not fight inside the burning trail.
- Account for Rallying Charge before committing to a distant low-health target.
- Attack from multiple directions so one traveling line cannot cover the whole fight.
Common Paige Mistakes
- Casting Plot Armor after the ally has already lost the important health.
- Dropping Captivating Read on present location instead of the required route.
- Launching Rallying Charge point blank when distance could increase its effect.
- Walking beside Bookwyrm into the same enemy response.
- Buying only area scaling while a diver reaches Paige every fight.
Paige Lore
Paige grew up around rare books and discovered that her storytelling had literal power. The bibliomancer now searches for her missing brother Bryce while carrying the knowledge and expectations of her family trade.

Paige FAQ
What is the best Paige build?
The current small pro sample starts with safe weapon pressure and health, then emphasizes expansion, Knockdown, charges, cooldown, duration, and Spirit protection.
How does Paige Rallying Charge work?
It sends a city-wide wave that heals allies and damages enemies, with the effect scaling as the wave travels farther.
What should Paige max first?
The largest completed current route maxes Bookwyrm, then Plot Armor, Captivating Read, and Rallying Charge.
What counters Paige?
Diving after Plot Armor is spent, leaving delayed zones, avoiding Bookwyrm lanes, respecting Rallying Charge, and attacking from several angles reduce her support value.
Sources And Methodology
Hero type, complexity, starting stats, ability names, and ability descriptions were checked July 21, 2026 against the current Deadlock API asset data. That independent project parses the live game files; it is not Valve.
The meta snapshot comes from Tracklock’s standard hero table. The item package comes from its rolling 43-game Paige pro sample, and the skill priority comes from completed normal matches on the July 9 patch. Tracklock says it captures a large proportion of matches, not every match. Pick rate, win rate, item frequency, and completed-build win rate answer different questions and must not be treated as interchangeable proof.
Valve’s July 9, 2026 update is the current official patch reference. Deadlock remains in active development, so recheck the live build and patch notes before copying a route into a later version.
