Deadlock July 13 Update Adds Hero-Specific Urn Voice Lines and Drifter Sounds
A July 13 Deadlock game-file update added hero-specific Soul Urn chatter and new hit sounds for Drifter's Eternal Night, without a normal public Valve changelog.
The Urn now has something personal to say to every hero carrying it.
A small Deadlock build on July 13, 2026 added hero-specific Soul Urn voice lines and new sound effects for Drifter’s Eternal Night. The changes were tracked through public game-file diffs and community documentation; Valve did not publish a normal Steam or official-forum patch note for the build.
The public SteamTracking comparison contains one July 13 commit touching five files, including Drifter’s sound-event file and the generated miscellaneous voice-over file. The Deadlock Wiki update page identifies the two player-facing additions.
What Changed in the Deadlock July 13 Update?
- New hero-specific lines play when a player stalls while carrying the Soul Urn.
- Drifter’s Eternal Night received new hit sound effects.
- No normal Valve changelog accompanied the build.
- The sources reviewed did not identify a documented July 13 balance change.
How Many New Soul Urn Voice Lines Are There?
The Deadlock Wiki’s current hero-specific Urn section catalogs five stalling lines for each of the game’s 38 heroes. That is 190 listed entries across Abrams, Apollo, Bebop, Billy, Calico, Celeste, Doorman, Drifter, and the rest of the roster.
The lines are tailored to the carrier. The Urn comments on character history, profession, reputation, and lore instead of drawing from one generic loop. That gives the objective more personality while also rewarding players who slow down long enough to hear it complain.
The count comes from a community-maintained file catalog, not an official Valve total. It is best read as a reproducible inventory of the tracked audio rather than a formal announcement.
What Changed for Drifter’s Eternal Night?
The July 13 diff changed soundevents/hero/drifter.vsndevts, and the Deadlock Wiki maps the addition to Eternal Night. Deadlock UA posted an eight-second demonstration labeled as the ability’s new hit sounds.
This is an audio-feedback change, not evidence of another Drifter balance pass. Valve had already reduced Drifter’s bullet scaling, Bloodscent bonus, Stalker’s Mark bleed, and base Mark cooldown in the July 9 patch. The July 13 sources reviewed here only support the new sound claim.
Players Reported Quiet Urn Audio
The new lines immediately produced a usability wrinkle. On July 13, a player opened an official forum bug report saying the Urn voice was extremely quiet for the carrier. The post included a match clip and said the issue affected old and new lines.
That report is not a confirmed bug fix or developer acknowledgement. It is a first-hand observation posted in Valve’s bug-report forum. The timing is notable because the July 9 update had just made the Urn talk every six seconds instead of every eight and increased the distance at which nearby players can hear it. Enemies may receive a clearer location cue even while the carrier struggles to hear the actual dialogue.
Was July 13 a Balance Patch?
Not according to the documented changes available here. The build is better described as an undocumented audio micro update. The SteamTracking commit also touched an abilities data file and the build’s Steam metadata, but the community changelog did not identify a player-facing mechanical adjustment. Without a Valve note or a reproducible value change, DramaLock is not turning file movement into a balance claim.
