Warden Binding Word In Deadlock: How The Escape Check, Immobilize, Silence, And June 11 T3 Change Work
Warden 3 is Binding Word, the curse that forces a target to move away or eat damage and immobilize, with a changed T3 cooldown value.
Binding Word is Warden turning escape into homework with a failing grade attached.
Short answer: Binding Word curses an enemy hero. If the target does not move far enough from the starting point before the escape timer ends, they take spirit damage and become immobilized.

Current Mechanics
Deadlock.one’s current Warden data lists Binding Word with a 15m cast range, 34-second cooldown, 0.15-second cast delay, 110 damage with 2.4 spirit scaling, 1.75-second immobilize duration, 2.8-second escape time, and 20m escape range.
The ability is a check, not a guarantee. Binding Word asks the target to move. Warden’s job is to make that answer hard by slowing, pressuring, bodying the route, or forcing the target to spend movement badly.
Upgrade Path
- 1 AP: Warden deals +20 percent more bullet damage to trapped heroes for 5s.
- 2 AP: +0.75s duration.
- 5 AP: -14s cooldown and silences enemies until they escape or are immobilized.
The T3 silence is the nasty part. It makes the target solve the escape check with less help from ability buttons, while the shorter cooldown keeps Warden asking the same rude question more often.
Key Patch Changes
Valve’s Gameplay Update – 05-22-2026 made Binding Word T2 no longer increase cast range by +12m.
Valve’s Minor Update – 06-11-2026 reduced Binding Word T3 from -18s cooldown to -14s. That is a nerf to the top-end cooldown refund, but the ability still becomes much more oppressive once silence is part of the escape check.
How To Use It
Cast Binding Word when the target’s clean exits are already compromised. Flask slow, close-range body pressure, stairways, corners, and spent stamina all turn the escape range into a real problem.
Deadlock Pro Cast’s April 29 Warden guide describes Binding Word as the cage-like piece of the kit: the target has to run away from Warden or take the damage and immobilize. That is the whole mini-game. Warden wants the target moving where he wants, not where they want.
Counterplay
Save movement for the curse, not for the panic before it. If Binding Word lands, immediately move out of the escape range, break Warden’s follow-up angle, and avoid routes where Flask slow or body pressure can pin you in place.
Lore And Context
Binding Word is the most Warden-coded spell in the set: legal language as crowd control. The target gets terms and conditions, and the punishment is not hidden in fine print.
